The 28-day safety study assessing the potential effects of FD&C Yellow No. 6 on male reproductive parameters, such as sperm development, has been published in the journal of Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology. This publication is the fourth in a series of articles on certified food color additives published by IACM on behalf of its members. The study presented in this article was conducted to address findings reported in another publication claiming adverse effects on sperm development. No such effects were detected in this study which was conducted according to OECD testing guidelines. The results of this study were submitted to EFSA and JECFA scientific review panels who concluded that there is no remaining safety concern for Sunset Yellow FCF.
